Valuable Lessons in Motherhood

I’m acquiring vast amounts of knowledge lately. I think I could even write a book.  I’d call it:

What NOT to Do as a Mom

Do NOT spend too much time on the computer in the morning.
Your children will get creative.
Do NOT let your one-year-old eat sherbet with a pencil.
He will squawk when you take the stolen goods away.
Do NOT try this at home.
Thankfully, my kids are kitchen counter-jumping professionals.

Do NOT trust children in the kitchen.
OK, I spilled the pepper.  The second time this year!  But I’m certain the lid was tampered with by one of my minions.
Do NOT buy markers–ever!
My girls like to decorate.

Do NOT allow your daughter to bring a dangerous looking bug in the house!
Dangerous looking bug will likely escape.

And finally, do NOT let your toddler get his drinks from the dishwasher.
Or at least stop him immediately, before you take a picture.
Grumpy Grateful Mom Goal of the Day:  Hiding all markers.

And I’m linking up:

  1. Lisa @ Two Bears Farm says:

LOL, mine go crazy trying to drink from the dishwasher too!

  2. These were so funny! Ha! Love the pictures- all of them. The pepper, the drinking from the dishwasher, the markers- hilarious!

  3. Amanda @ Gratefully Growing in Grace says:

I would probably not let my kids do the counter jumping 'cause I'm chicken like that, but I REALLY want to try that myself. It looks like more fun than I've had in a while. Have you done it?

  4. Sandy -- As Told By Mommy says:

Haha I love you! Your kids are crazy!! Please tell me this didn't all happen in one day haha!

  5. all of those cracked me up! particularly the little one drinking from the dishwasher- too funny!!!

  6. yummychunklet says:

OMG, everything is so cute! But, it had to have been a bit of a mess to clean up!

  7. Ah the joys of motherhood! Those pictures are great!

  8. Wow – your kids are as crazy and mine!! Makes me feel like I'm in pretty good company!!

  9. momnextdoor says:

Somewhere my children just got serious pangs of jealousy and they are not sure why. It's because your counter is positioned just right for jumping. If my kids had this option they would be ALL over it!

  10. Ha! This is awesome! Oh, to be a kid again ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. Laura@livingabigstory says:

You are SOO great at taking pictures … how many FUNNY things you will have to TOTALLY blackmail your kidlets!

  12. I love your sons decorated face! And the drinking from the dishwasher! thanks for the laugh!

  13. Kiddothings says:

Yes, valuable lessons indeed. I'll be sure to keep them in mind. ๐Ÿ˜€

  14. It looks like your kids were having a *bit* too much fun this week! Hilarious!

  15. LOL Why do kids drink the water from the dishwahser/toliet? Mine think its hilarous LOL

  16. Well, hopefully my teenagers won't attempt any of this but I think these are good reminders for when my granddaughter comes to visit next month ๐Ÿ™‚

  17. Oh my… I cannot even imagine kids who are that…. creative. ๐Ÿ™‚

  18. Oh my goodness! I so wish I could come and share muffin and some laughs with you some time. Your kids would provide the entertainment! Hey, I like that toilet seat! That's high art! I thought it was an artsy fartsy watercolor design.

    Thanks for the laughs today!

  19. Oh my goodness, these are too much! ๐Ÿ™‚ Hilarious! ๐Ÿ™‚ Mia loves the dishwasher…putting her babies in it, taking the dishes out of it, and yes, even drinking the water in it! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Have a great weekend! ๐Ÿ™‚

  20. JDaniel4's Mom says:

Your children have such talents. Dishwasher drinking is such an acquired taste. I hope JDaniel doesn't acquire it.

  21. Jenn @ Coolest Family on the Block says:

hahaha I don't think I could get my daughter to do half of those things even if I encouraged her to…she's quite the little priss.

  22. GrumpyJaxMomOf3 says:

I absolutely LOVE that I am not alone in my crazy life lol. I have starting taking pictures of the crazy things my kids do also. Dani is quite an amazing "counter jumper." Can't wait to see you tomorrow!!

  23. I think this is the funniest thing I've seen this week! Thanks for the laugh!

You know my favorite part of your posts? That you can laugh at all this chaotic stuff in your life. I think that's so important for life.

And I agree on the marker thing. And the bug thing. But I'm not sold on the dishwasher thing yet. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  24. My kids are also pros at the jumping on furniture (and off of counters) sport.
And my 10 yr old still can not be trusted with markers!!!

  25. Every year I swear I'm not buying any more markers! This is the first year I actually did it. Mine don't drink from the dishwasher, but they love to climb up on it. In our old house, one of the kids did that and actually broke the door!
    Sandy

  26. An Irish Italian Blessing says:

Pretty sure I do all those things, except for eating the sherbert with a pencil, except for the couch acrobatics, except for the markers (My poor couch already learned that lesson) oh and except for the bugs..ewwwm, LOL Ahhhh…the joys of motherhood.

  27. What a fun blog post! Love it!

  28. euregirlsandboys says:

This is hilarious! I agree with no markers – I regret it every time. They write all over themselves, their clothes, the furniture, the walls…pretty much any surface they see. But I know I'll keep doing it. And my kids would love to jump from the counters like that – they constantly pile up blankets and pillows to lay in, play in, jump in, whatever.

  29. Oh THANK YOU GOD! Thank you that I'm not the only one! My Jax loves to drink dirty kiddie pool water, & ofcourse the doggies water! Ofcourse.

  30. The toilet seat is kind of pretty, though. I like it. ๐Ÿ™‚ I hope they painted the other side to match?

  31. My Inner Chick says:

    —Dear, Grumpy Mom,
I love Love Love your posts :)))))) xxx
btw, the toilet seat is pure art.

  32. I would take that toilet seat over the one I found last week (stupid stomach flu).

The worst thing is when you are the one making the mess so you can't grumble a "this is why you should be more careful" lecture while you clean it up.

  33. Oh these are great lessons!! Such great moments you've captured. I LOL! ๐Ÿ™‚ Stopped by from Sara's link.

  34. Your kids just make my day. ๐Ÿ˜€

  35. okay the toilet seat is awesome. hahaha. The kitchen couch flipping thing is scary. My heart stopped a second. Oh the pepper!!!! I wanted to sneeze. Great post all the way. ๐Ÿ˜€ I am following you on Twitter now…I am Missellejay0902

  36. bahahaha i love this!!

  37. Kim of Mo'Betta says:

I love that you captured all this on film! (well..it's probably not on actual film. geez, I'm old.)

  38. I agree with everyone — glad you snapped those pictures! They are all just super cute. My favorite is the one of your little guy drinking out of the dishwasher. I think I would have stopped to grab a camera too!

  39. Help! Mama Remote... says:

ROTFL!!!!this looks.like my house. Whew! I don't feel bad now ๐Ÿ™‚ my little one is the only one on the counter though.

  40. That is hilarious!
I am so exhausted just looking at the pictures!

  41. LOVE MELISSA:) says:

These are soooo AWESOME!!!!!! Every single one. The toilet seat is all sorts of awesome! Love this!

  42. Woman, you most definitely could write a book… or ten, about all your adventures. So did you display the toilet seat somewhere nice in the house? You know, since it's art and all.
And I'm just wondering how TLC has not found you to offer you your own show. Your life would be good TV!

  43. These cracked me up! Seriously, you must have your camera on you all the time to be able to capture these moments! Kids are more than creators and inventors and dare devils, they are invincible little brave warriors paving entirely new paths in life!

  44. You are one of my favorites….EVER! Thanks for the laugh…it's been a bit of a lousy day. I needed it.

P.S. My husband, upon seeing the couch jumping picture, said, "and she's letting them do that?" He he he….men…they just don't get it.

  45. Oh, wow…you have your hands full, don't you? I think I might be able to handle all of these child-related emergencies except for the bug. That's a brave little girl you have there.

  46. Is your daughter doing a flip in that picture on the couch?! I'm impressed!

  47. amazing pictures.
    i love every single one.
    impressive flip by your daughter!

also, I often snap the photo, then stop the act… hey, makes for a good memory if you can get a photo first.

  48. I love this post! Sooo funny. Great picture of the flip off of the counter (scary too).

  49. Rach (DonutsMama) says:

Oh.My.Goodness! You have your hands full. Yes, hide all markers, quickly!!

  50. The toilet seat is amazing! It is just great!
And I want to jump off yoru kitchen counter now!

  51. Mommy LaDy Club says:

Okay, the drinking out of the dishwasher just cracked me up!

  52. Wow, that was so cute; I LOL. I loved the colored toilet seat and the pictures were priceless. Children are very creative and I remember some days like these.
Blessing to you and keep on enjoying these precious moments!

  53. I actually like that toilet seat ๐Ÿ™‚
Oh wow, kids are so active and curious aren't they!!

  54. Oh, this made me laugh!!! And feel better about the things my boys get into.

  55. Hopes@Staying Afloat! says:

OH I love these! Each and every one of them! What is it about couches that make children think that they are indoor trampolines??

  56. BEST POST EVER!! I love it!!

I need to put my markers up now.

And we removed the ottoman for that very reason.

My two year totally "helps" with the dishwasher.

  57. I Am Not Superwoman says:

And I thought I had my hands full.

  58. I'm thinking that I should bring my kids over to play. They are trained just like your kids. It will be a perfect match. I won't bring any markers.

  59. You need a clone to help you over there! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  60. Hehehe. Your kids are keeping you hopping for sure. I especially love the counter-hopping!

  61. Texas Type A Mom says:

Your kid's antics sure do make for great blog fodder!

  62. Oh my gosh!!! Can't stop laughing…

I think you're right about the pepper. It was clearly tampered with:).

  63. Lexie Loo, Little Lily, and Dylan Too! says:

Those are all great lessons…the pictures are the best part!

  64. Girl… I love your family! I wish we could have crazy chaos playdates, lol ๐Ÿ˜‰

  65. my3littlebirds says:
