Three Big Changes

A few needed changes this week.

Change #1
I think I win the award for blog wishy-washiness. I’m ALREADY ending my good news link up. I’ve sincerely enjoyed reading those posts and appreciated everyone who participated!

I plan to keep blogging this year, but I’m slowing down even more.  Thus, I’ll be taking another week and half off starting tomorrow!

Change #2
Google Friend Connect will be leaving me before I get back, so I’m wondering if things will be very silent when I return.  To keep in touch you can sign up for my feed or an email subscription.  I will eat a celebratory bowl of ice cream in your honor if you do!

And most importantly,
Change #3
I got a new hairstyle–bangs!Despite previous bang disasters, this time I loved how it turned out!  I was anxious to show my family.  As I walk inside, my six-year-old, Evie, just gapes at me speechless. Then, she yells to her sister, “Look at Mom!”

Seven-year-old Dani wasn’t speechless. “It’s weird. It’s soooo weird.”

My husband now walks into the room and pauses to stare at me, pensively.

“You like it?” I ask.

It looks much…straighter.  And something else is different too.  What is it?”

“I have bangs.”

“I’m not so sure about those.”

“I can’t change them back!”

“Oh, I mean it looks lovely.”

Dani pipes up again, “It’s just really weird.”

“It’s not very nice to say someone looks weird.”

I thought this would put an end to it. But! She starts crying!

Through her tears, “I really miss your old hair! It was so beautiful.  Why did you have to change it?”

I pinned the offending bangs back with a barrette.

“Yes.” she whimpers.

Grumpy Grateful Mom Goal of the Year: Growing out my bangs, again.

Have a great week!  I’ll see you all soon!

  1. Your bangs look great! I can never cut them because they inevitably drive me crazy. I can’t stand the hair on my forehead, or having to actually fix them.

Enjoy your break, I’ll see you when you get back. 🙂

  2. I love your new hair style!! And you have amazing green eyes too!! Your family will just have to grow to love the bangs 🙂
Sorry to hear you’re slowing down on the blogging but I completely understand how time consuming it is. Enjoy your break xo

  3. well kids are honest if nothing else. enjoy your time off

  4. june had a royal fit when i wore mine in the tiniest ponytail possible the other day. “i don’t know who you are anymore!” tell me how you really fell. i love your bangs. enjoy your break.

  5. You have absolutely beautiful eyes! And I like your haircut but way to take one for the team and pull the offending bangs back.
I’ll be excited to read you again after your break!

  6. Love your change number 1. My hubby and I last night decided that the computer was sucking up all of our free time especially on the weekend. We will now be shutting the laptop and putting it up from Friday night until Monday morning. There are just too many important things that need to get done, starting with FAMILY! 🙂

Love the bangs by the way…

  7. Oh my gosh. I like your bangs. Your family’s reaction is just a bit comical, though.

I need a new hairstyle BAD. I just can’t make myself go to someone who might have a clue or two about hairstyles. They’ll either be really expensive and do a good job or be really expensive and do a horrible job. And I’m not much of a participant in “really expensive” projects.

  8. You have a tough crowd to please, don’t you? Sheesh. I think they look lovely! Maybe you can “forget” to pin them back a few mornings and see if everyone gets used to it! Lexie used to do the same thing to me when I would drastically change my haircolor. It REALLY freaked her out…even when she was like 8, so I’ve let myself turn back into a mousy brown…forever I guess.

I’m following you in Google reader, so hopefully it won’t be a problem when your GFC disappears. Have fun on your break!

  9. I think the bangs look great – I actually just did the same thing, but they are long bangs so I can still tuck behind my ear. I also dyed a reddish colour – you’d think I’d dipped my head in cherry kool-aid by their reaction! funny how kids don’t want their mom to change, like ever!
    have a good blog break!

  10. The sacrifices mothers make for their children…

  11. Ohhh, I’ll have to make sure I subscribe via e-mail (I don’t think I am) so that I can stay connected with you! 🙂 Enjoy your blogging break!

I love the bangs! Regardless of your families feelings, I think it looks great! 😉

  12. For the record, I like the bangs. She’ll get used to them!

I don’t blame you for slowing down. I’ve really had to take a break the last few weeks.

  13. You looked beautiful! kids don’t like their moms to change when they are little. Its only when they grow up they don’t care! lol

I follow you on twitter so I won’t miss a post.

Hope you enjoy your sabatical from blogging.
Read you when you get back 🙂

  14. LOL your family’s reaction to your hair cracks me up. It’s so typical. Why is it that our kids hate when we change our hair? And our husbands…well, they’re hard to please in general when it comes to hair! I think they look great!! They really suit you 🙂 Love the little barrette you had to stick in to make your daughter happy hehe. I’ll definitely be subscribing to your blog one way or another once GFC changes!!! 😉

  15. I love the bangs. Cut mine a year or so ago and I’m happy with them!

  16. I personally like the bangs – kids don’t like change, especially when they are used to seeing mommy a certain way.

good luck with the mini-break….we’ll all be here when you get back!

  17. ~~~Love the bangs !! :)))

  18. I think your bangs are super cute! I bet they’ll get used to them if you don’t grow them out.
I’ll miss your Good News link-ups! But it’s good that you’re doing what works best for you.
I don’t think I even use Google Friend Connect which shows how behind the times I am!
I’m going to be taking a blog break for the first half of March. I need it too!

  19. Hope you have a great week also.

  20. Thats funny I am a child that grew up in the 80’s and I can’t get rid of my bangs. I’ve tried a couple of times and I can’t stand it. At least I got rid of the pouf that went a mile high though (my kids laughed at those pictures 😉

  21. I think your bangs look pretty! Change is so hard for kids. And they never just say “I like it” when you get a haircut. Darn kids.

I’m already an email subscriber, so go ahead and have that extra bowl of ice cream. 🙂

  22. Tears over bangs? Oh my.

    I thought they looked cute.

  23. I love your bangs too! 🙂

Will be signing up for your emails or something this afternoon…I am not sure what the other thing is. Why the change?

Have fun on your break! 🙂

  24. I think the bangs looked cute but I know my girls have a hard time when I blow my hair out straight. They always ask why I don’t leave it curly. I have to tell them that sometimes I almost freeze to death waiting for those curls to dry.
As for your blog. I’m sorry you are stopping your link up. I haven’t participated the last couple weeks because I am trying to stay off of the computer more. I feel like I have been using it as a way to make up for time that I used to be working. I need to get some things done around the house, live a little and remember why I stopped working…for my family. When I do that, I think the “Good News” will come a lot easier. Enjoy your time off! I’ll be here when you get back. xo!

  25. I like the bangs!

My kids react strangely when I get my hair done too. When I dyed my hair red, my son was like, “What happened to you?” and Natalie said, “You’re like Ariel! Only not as pretty.” Gee. Thanks?

  26. Personally I love the baNgs! AnD will miss reading ya! I look forward to it….I know I’m not alone in little tyraids :)…however you DO know I get wishy washy award!! 🙂

  27. I LOVE the bangs! change can be hard for others, especially kiddos – but I think that they will warm up to them! 🙂

  28. haha. I think they look great! I’ve been thinking about going that way again too.
Have fun during your week off 🙂

  29. I like the bangs!!! But the kid barett looks cute too. Have fun on your week off, I hope lots of funny blog worthy stuff happens while you’re away 🙂

  30. I think your bangs look great! Maybe they will grow back during your week and a half off…

  31. I love bangs because they are just so cute and hip. I’ve tried to have them a few times but I have a cowlic that prevents them from looking cute or hip.

I have no idea what google reader is. Ignorance is bliss I guess.

  32. I think it looks GREAT!!!! Kids say the silliest things. You need to reach to your mommy Blogger friends for our great approval!!!

  33. The hairdo looks great!

  34. Your bangs look great! When I cut 10 inches off my hair Babe wouldn’t come near me and Bud kept telling me it looked weird. Kids are great aren’t they!

You are now entered in my reader so that I don’t lose you!! Enjoy your break and we’ll all be right here when you get back!

  35. I so love you! I am LOL on this one. I am sure your bangs are wonderful; they look great. I will look forward to following your posts whenever you have a moment to breath and blog.
Blessings to you and hugs too!

  36. Who knew the kids would get attached to your hair? Loving the bangs!

  37. I like the bangs! I know if I change my hair my son would lose his marbles.

  38. This is so interesting, I don’t know why kids don’t like when there parents change there appearance at this age. My sis-in-law was going to have her cuz straight her hair and her 5 yr old son started to cry and beg her not to do anything to her hair, he kept fighting and her cuz couldnt get anywhere close to her to straighten her hair.

I like the new look. I always luv bangs.

  39. I absolutely LOVE your bangs…they draw attention to your gorgeous eyes!! Who cares what the kids think? 😉

  40. I like your bangs!

I have noticed though that it really disturbs kids for a day or two when mom looks different in anyway. If you dyed your hair purple they wouldn’t notice the bangs for sure! (wink)

  41. Love the bangs, either way, ya look fab…

So, you are leaving me again for another break!!?!? I do not recall approving this time off!! What are you doing!? Are you driving to Texas to surprise me!? I knew it. Aw man.. I need my grumpy fix…. guess I’ll have to ping you other ways to stay in touch!! hugs!!!

My fountain has me so relaxed and yet spending more time in the bathroom.

  42. I don’t blame you for ending your link-up. They are a lot of work to promote! Oh, and I love your bangs too!

  43. Love the bangs! They turned out great…funny how kids react to change like that.

  44. Hooray for blogging on your own terms! And I personally love your bangs!!

  45. The bangs look great. I have you on my blog I love page so it should be no problem:) Enjoy your break!

  46. I like the bangs!

  47. I think the bangs are adorable! and question I guess I don’t get the whole GFC thing… for all the blogs I just hit th efollow button will I not be following them anymore?

  48. I, for one, actually like the bangs. They will get used to them. 🙂

Good for you for taking a break and slowing down. Makes me feel better for doing the same. 🙂 I hope you enjoy your week and a half off.

  49. Well, I like the bangs. I say keep ’em and let the family just get used to it. See you next week!

  50. Everytime I cut bangs.. I end up growing them back out too.

Love the honesty of family… ♥

  51. I, too, love your bangs! I have to wear bangs, because I have a high forehead and it looks weird if I don’t. You have a smart husband, by the way, to change his mind so quickly. =)

  52. Oh no! I like your bangs! Why are men so bad at giving hair compliments;) I have bangs, so I’m partial to them. They are more forgiving as you get older, even though you are probably not there yet;) I’ll be here when you get back. Enjoy your break!

  53. Dude. LOVING the bangs! Hahaa… your family is awesome!

  54. Oh my heavens! Drama! Lol!

  55. Gotta love them! I am a total bangs girl – they hide my eyebrows when they need to be waxed. Enjoy your break!

  56. Love the bangs, but I am a bangs girl, too. And I will miss your Good News! link up and your blog posts, but I can certainly understand spending less time blogging and on the computer in general. I’m trying to cut back, too. Who knows if I will succeed lol.

    Enjoy your time away!

  57. I will always have bangs…even in my 80s…hides my massive forehead! Haha! I think yours are cute! How selfless of you to put them up in the clip to make your ‘lil one feel better…or was it to stop the crying? Hahaha…..a bit of both I’m sure.
Have a great time off…I think I’m following you every which way, so I’ll definitely see ya later. Take it easy!

  58. Bangs are CUTE! But understand kids and change. No more Good News, that linky rocked. You cant take a break. Love reading your posts. Makes me feel normal. Hey did you see I am in Ethiopia? Only day 2 here so only a handful of pics. Hope you can check them out.

  59. Thedesertrocks says:

I love the bangs and I’m totally impressed with all your followers that agree with me!
    Sorry Evie.

  60. O, I like your hair. And your story is my story.I recognize this. Only in this way: my husband like it when I have no pony. I might try it and then I see his face, his eyes … and know that I myself do not have to change.

  61. Love your bangs. you should keep them. Good idea about taking time off the blog. It is so important not to treat a blog like an everyday job to which you have to dedicate time every day

  62. Cute bangs I think. Hopefully she’ll get over it.

  63. LOL too cute. It did look good though 🙂

  64. Your bangs look great!

  65. I love the bangs – I think they look great! I never understand how our hair choices can affect our kids so much. My girls are the same way though.

  66. The bangs are awesome! I have to have bangs. She will get used to them. I remember my son freaking out the first time whacked my hair off. He lived. haha.

  67. You will be missed!! And from what I can see from the picture- the bangs looked great. Kids just aren’t good with change.

  68. I like the new hair style!

Sometimes slowing down and taking a break is what we need.

  69. I will definitely be signing up for your email subscriptions! Hope you have a wonderful break. The bangs look cute, btw. I’m always so afraid to get bangs again!

  70. You are beautiful!

  71. I like your bangs! I had mine cut back during the holidays and it felt so different but I liked the new look!
Breaks are good, enjoy your time off. You inspire me. 😉

  72. HOW LONG GONE ARE YOU GONNA BE!? Please get with me to review the details… I’m having GGM withdrawl!

  73. I love the new bangs!! I think they’re fun and edgy!
I once had the same exact reaction from someone…they touched my bangs and said “yea, I don’t know how I feel about those!” *geee, thanks!*

I hope you’re enjoying your vaca!
I’ve taken a blog one too!
It was kinda nice to be disconnected for a bit!!

    Have a wonderful week!!

  74. Hey Ms. GGM – I am hoping you got my e-mail about the blog dinner and that you can still come!
    Let me know.
And if by chance you did not get the e-mail then e-mail me and let me know so I can give you the details.

    Hope you are doing great!

  75. I keep trying different link ups … and – I haven’t struck gold yet. Maybe we should think of something awesome to do together. I’m still sad I ended “Make me laugh Monday” – I was just thinking today that it would be fun to put a random picture up and have people enter a caption for it. 🙂 Anyway… I love your bangs. but – I get the whining. About everything. Including a slight change in hairstyle.

  76. Umm…have your bangs grown out yet?! It’s been a while. Miss you!!

  77. Just wanted you to know I miss you! Hope you are having a good break!! I miss my Grumpy Grateful fix! I love the new haircut! Sending much love!!

  78. I really love the new bangs! You look great!

  79. I love your hair! Funny how hard changes on mom are on little ones. 🙂

I heard you were gonna come to the blogger dinner and didn’t get to. That would have been so fun to have you there!

  80. Isn’t it funny how kids don’t like their moms to change their hair? I can tell you my kids don’t like at all that I’m going gray. And, um, it’s been more than two weeks! 😉

  81. Janae, where are you? Missing your hilarious posts. Hope you are doing well and getting some much needed downtime (ha! I know that is probably funny with kids). Have a nice St Pattys Day!

  82. Just stopping in to say hello! You are not showing up in my dashboard anymore, dang GFC. Hope you and your family are well! : )

  93. I love those bangs! I guess we should always get our kids’ approval before trying on a new hairstyle. I was thinking of getting bangs too, but maybe I should ask my daughter first 🙂
